Depending on your type of visit, there are specific areas designed to take care of your individual needs efficiently and compassionately. Primary Stroke Center

Avon Hospital is certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. Obtaining this certification signifies that Avon Hospital has undergone an extensive onsite evaluation and meets strict national stroke care standards as required by The Joint Commission. Avon Hospital also has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get with the Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award.

Earning this recognition demonstrates that Avon's stroke program follows national guidelines regarding quality and patient safety, which can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.

Patient Blood Management is a means of patient care that reduces the need for blood transfusion. Cleveland Clinic nurses and doctors provide Patient Blood Management as a normal part of your care and can help you decide which options regarding management of your blood are best for your condition, as well as when to make the decision to get a blood transfusion. Cleveland Clinic offers Patient Blood Management at all of its hospital facilities located in the United States.

Breast Program

The Breast Program at Avon Hospital is committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive, high-quality care to every patient. We provide breast screening and diagnostic mammography, and breast procedures including aspirations, needle biopsies and localization for surgical planning close to home.

Cardiology

Our cardiologists diagnose and treat heart diseases, such as coronary artery disease, valvular disease and rhythm disorders. Complex cases are referred to Cleveland Clinic's Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. U.S. News & World Report has consistently named Cleveland Clinic's heart program No. 1 in the nation since 1995.

Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology

Cleveland Clinic's Section of Invasive and Interventional Cardiology offers the latest, most technologically advanced diagnostic tests and catheter based treatments for atherosclerosis, heart valve disease, adult congenital heart disease and peripheral artery disease.

Critical Care Medicine

Cleveland Clinic's Critical Care Medicine and Intensive Care Unit services are internationally recognized as a model for providing critical care resources and managing both common and complex diseases. Critical Care specialists at Avon Hospital are committed to providing the highest level of patient-centered care.

Endocrinology

The endocrine system is a major control system of the body, regulating temperature, metabolism and other processes. Specialists at Cleveland Clinic provide care to people with endocrine disorders such as diabetes mellitus; obesity; osteoporosis and related problems of androgen excess (such as acne and menstrual irregularity); hypoglycemia; and glandular dysfunction of the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenals, ovaries and testes.

Gastroenterology

A variety of upper endoscopic diagnostic procedures are offered in order to identify the causes of abdominal or chest pain, nausea and vomiting, heartburn, bleeding and swallowing disorders. More accurate than X-rays, endoscopy can also help identify inflammation, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers and tumors. Lower endoscopy is used to evaluate stomach pain and intestinal bleeding, as well as to detect polyps in the colon that may lead to colon cancer.

General Internal Medicine

Our internal medicine staff provides comprehensive services for adults, such as diagnosing and treating health problems that require prompt attention, conducting general physical examinations and performing screenings, which may detect health problems early.

General Surgery

Our board-certified general surgeons provide evaluation and treatment, including minimally invasive surgery, for a broad range of medical problems, such as hernia repair and gall bladder removal.

Geriatric Emergency Department

The Avon Hospital Emergency Department, located at Richard E. Jacobs Campus, has achieved the silver standard for Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians. GEDA recognizes emergency departments that provide excellent care for older adults. 

Avon Hospital’s accreditation signals we are a senior-friendly emergency department and our focus is on providing the highest standards of care for the communities’ older adults which includes:

Gynecology

Gynecologists offer specialized care for women, including preventive health screenings and general gynecology services. If necessary, the expertise of other gynecologic specialists is available in areas such as infertility, high-risk obstetrics and gynecologic cancer.

Hospital Medicine

A hospitalist specializes in the care of hospitalized patients. Our hospitalists are Cleveland Clinic board-certified internal medicine specialists who have additional training or experience in caring for hospitalized patients. They do not see outpatients, nor do they continue caring for hospitalized patients after they leave the hospital, but they communicate closely with your outpatient physician(s) at admission, during your hospital stay and at discharge to ensure that your primary care physician is engaged in planning your care in the hospital.

Imaging / Radiology

Services include: CT scans, General X-ray, MRI, digital mammography, bone density scans and ultrasounds.

Infectious Disease

Our infectious disease specialists treat patients with infectious diseases, including community-acquired infections and infections related to complex medical conditions.

Nephrology

Cleveland Clinic's Department of Nephrology and Hypertension provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with renal disease and hypertension. The department participates in an active renal transplant program, all modalities of dialysis care, and clinical research studies of diabetic and other glomerular disease. In addition to unique diagnostic capabilities, the department offers specialty clinics in renal stone disease, renal transplantation, chronic renal diseases and hypertension.

Orthopaedics

General and pediatric orthopaedic care, sports medicine and spine care are offered. Patients with orthopaedic problems related to the hands and upper extremities, or feet, ankles and knees can access specialty care from our staff.

Pulmonology

Pulmonology specialists treat pulmonary and respiratory problems. Related conditions such as chronic bronchitis with acute exacerbation and emphysema are also treated.

Urology

Our board-certified urologists provide the latest in diagnostic and treatment techniques for a wide range of urologic conditions in adults and children. These include kidney disease, bladder control, prostate disorders, sexual dysfunction, male infertility, cancer (testicular, bladder, adrenal, prostate and kidney), chronic urinary tract infections and obstructions, and birth defects such as undescended testes and hypospadias.

Vascular Medicine

Cleveland Clinic's Section of Vascular Medicine offers comprehensive care to patients with diseases of the vascular system (blood vessels). A wide range of medical disorders can affect the body's intricate network of arteries, veins, and even tinier blood vessels. Among these conditions are peripheral artery disease, Raynauds, and more. Vascular Medicine specialists diagnose and manage arterial, venous and lymphatic disorders. They also provide acute and long-term care to patients with coagulation and thrombotic abnormalities.

Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgeons specialize in the diagnosis and management of carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, and poor circulation to the legs and abdominal organs. Acting in close cooperation with vascular medicine specialists, cardiologists and radiologists, our vascular surgeons provide comprehensive services for all types of peripheral vascular disorders, including the new technology of catheter-based intervention, as well as traditional surgical treatment for aneurysms and obstructive arterial disease.
