Cleveland Clinic Overall Mortality Observed/Expected Ratio

2020 – 2022

CC = Cleveland Clinic

Data from the Vizient® Clinical Data Base used with permission of Vizient, Inc. All rights reserved.

Ratios less than 1.0 indicate mortality performance “better than expected” in Vizient’s risk adjustment model. Cleveland Clinic’s observed/expected (O/E) mortality ratio continues to improve and is on track to achieve our health system target as derived from the Vizient 2021 risk model.

Cleveland Clinic Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection, reported as Standardized Infection Ratio (SIR)

2020 – 2022

The SIR is a ratio of observed infections to expected infections as defined by the Center for Disease Control. SIRs less than 1.0 indicate better than expected performance.

While not yet at target, Cleveland Clinic’s standardized infection ratio (SIR) continues to improve. Lower numbers are better.

Cleveland Clinic has implemented several strategies to reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), including a best practice central-line bundle of insertion, maintenance, and removal. Focused reviews for every CLABSI occurrence support reductions in CLABSI rates in the high-risk critical care population.

Cleveland Clinic Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection reported as Standardized Infection Ratio (SIR)

2020 – 2022

The SIR is a ratio of observed infections to expected infections as defined by the Center for Disease Control. Lower numbers are better. SIRs less than 1.0 indicate better than expected performance.

The SIR is a ratio of observed infections to expected infections as defined by the Center for Disease Control. Cleveland Clinic’s standardized infection ratio is now outperforming its internal target for Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).

Cleveland Clinic Clostridioides difficile reported as Standardized Infection Ratio (SIR)

2020 – 2022

The SIR is a ratio of observed infections to expected infections as defined by the Center for Disease Control. Lower numbers are better. SIRs less than 1.0 indicate better than expected performance.

Early screening, detection and treatment of Clostridioides difficile infections have helped to improve infection rates and reduce unnecessary antibiotic use. Additionally, new cleaning and lab testing procedures have contributed to this reduction.

Falls with Injury Rate

2020 – 2022

There is a higher risk for patients to fall in the healthcare setting. Cleveland Clinic utilizes multiple processes and technology to help reduce the rate at which patients fall. The majority of the focus around falls is to prevent and assist patients so that there are no injuries. Cleveland Clinic has shown recent success in reducing the rate at which patients are getting injured during a fall.

Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries Prevalence

2020 – 2022

Patients acuity and complexity of treatment impacts the risk of pressure injuries while in the hospital.

Cleveland Clinic continues to innovate through the use of equipment, supplies, technology, and expert resources to reduce pressure injuries.

Prescribed Opioids - MME /Encounter

2020 - 2022

CCHS = Cleveland Clinic health system

Cleveland Clinic health system providers have reduced opioid prescriptions by over 25% while also working to improve care for patients suffering with addiction.
